PPP/PFI Challenge 2008:13th – 15th June           

In June 2008, teams from the PPP/PFI industry will come together for the 4th PPP/PFI Challenge. Over thirty teams took part in the 2007 regatta and entries into the 2008 regatta will be limited to a maximum of 40 yachts.
The event is aimed at the principals in the PFI/PPP industry (public sector, private sector and funders) though a limited number of other companies involved in the PPP/PFI industry (construction companies, property advisers, lawyers, technical advisers or financial advisers) will be allowed to enter. All participants (entrants and guests) must be genuinely involved in the PPP/PFI business.

Public Private Finance, as the leading publication for the sector, is the event’s media sponsor and will be ensuring a high media profile for both the event and its competitors.

Friday 13th June 2008

08.00 Crew registration, Port Hamble Marina

10.00 Skippers’ briefing from Race Officer

10.30 Crews depart for practice time

13.00 Lunch onboard

14.00 Race One starts, under instruction from Race Committee.

15.30 Race Two starts.

17.00 Yachts moor in Cowes Yacht Haven.

19.00 PPP:PFI Pimms Reception and BBQ at the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club, Cowes.


Saturday 14th June 2008

09.00 Skippers’ Briefing

10.00 Race Three starts, under instruction from Race Committee

11.30 Race Four starts.

13.00 Lunch onboard

14.00 Race Five starts.

15.30 Race Six starts.

17.00 Racing scheduled to finish and crews proceed to Yacht Haven.

19.30 Drinks reception in the Cowes Events Centre.

20.00 Dinner served in the Cowes Events Centre.

21.30 Prize giving

22.00 - 00.00 Post dinner entertainment.


Sunday 15th June 2008

Breakfast to be taken at leisure and free sailing time, on a cruising only basis.

15.00 All yachts to be returned to Port Hamble Marina by this deadline.

Yachts - Beneteau 40.7
The Beneteau 40.7 forms Class 1 of the regatta and attracted over 20 teams in 2007, making the PPP:PFI Challenge one of the largest gatherings of 40.7s in the season and a fiercely competitive class to race in.

Race Structure
All crews will have the opportunity to practice on the morning of Friday 13th June. The racing then comprises 6 races in the Solent, all overseen by a professional Race Officer and support vessel.

The first two races will take place on Friday afternoon and the remaining four will take place on Saturday 14th June. If 4 or more races take place during the course of the regatta, teams will be able to discard their worst result and the remaining results will be used to calculate the final results

Prizes
The prize giving will take place at the regatta dinner on Saturday 14th June at the prestigious Cowes Events Centre on the Isle of Wight.

Prizes will be presented to the winning team and to those teams in second and third place. Crew members from the winning team will also receive individual trophies.

The Corinthian Cup will be awarded to the highest placed team skippered by a member of the PPP/PFI industry.

Entry Costs
The cost to enter the PPP:PFI Challenge is £4,895 + VAT for a team on a Beneteau 40.7 yacht. .

Each team package includes the following:
• Beneteau 40.7, suitable for up to 10 guests.
• Accommodation onboard a Beneteau 40.7 for up to 6 guests.
• Professional skipper.
• Professional 1st mate (for Beneteau 40.7 entrants)
• Race insurance.
• Donation of £300 to SPARKS, the PPP:PFI Challenge's chosen charity for 2008.
• Boat branding in the form of a bow logo with your company logo.
• Gala dinner tickets for all crew members, to include pre-dinner drinks and 3 course dinner with wine, at the Cowes Events Centre.
• All moorings in Hamble and Cowes.
